Indoor Soccer League Rules

Asphalt Green Indoor Soccer League Rules

1.  General Rules:

    a. The official(s) shall determine and advise the team captains of any special rules of play that may be required by virtue of unique architecture of the facility prior to a game. Such “house rules” shall be binding only as to the specific game then being played and may be altered as to any subsequent game, whether or not involving the team participating or those officials.

   b. All games will be played using official FIFA Futsal laws and guidelines unless stated differently within the following rules.

    c. Games will consist of two 20 minute halves with no stoppage time. 3 minutes for half time (referee discretion). There are no time outs or overtime/extra periods/PK, except when necessary during playoffs. Time out requests are made by the referee, if necessary.

   d. All games will start at their scheduled time and should games run late for any reason, the referee may choose to shorten the half-length or adjust half time accordingly.

    e. Any team that shows up more than 10 minutes late to their game will forfeit that week’s game. The game may still be played but the outcome will be predetermined. No warm up time will be allowed for teams that show up late.

     f. The official will determine (by coin toss or other means) who kicks off first. Teams will alternate possession and side starting the second half. After each goal, the game will be restarted with a kick off by the opposing team.

   g. All games will be 5 on 5 (including a goalkeeper). For coed leagues, a maximum of 3 men and a minimum of 2 women must be on each side at all times.

   h. Teams may play 4v5 or 3v5 if they only have that number of players show up. In coed leagues, with only 4 players, a team must still have 2 women minimum in the game at all times and with only 3 players, must have a minimum of 1 women. If a team is short a player, that team is allowed to pick up another rostered (waiver signed) player from another team. However players must play with their original team for playoffs.

     i. A team with less than 3 players will forfeit that week's game. If these minimums are not met, a forfeit will be recorded and the forfeiting team will receive a 3-0 loss. See policies on forfeits.

2.  Rules of the Game:

    a. There are no out of bounds and all the walls are playable.

   b. The goal circle will be the goalie box and players other than the GK are allowed in this space.

    c. The offside rule does not apply.

   d. Shots on goal cannot be taken until the ball has crossed to the opponents half.

    e. When the GK (Goal Keeper) releases the ball it must bounce or be touched by a teammate before passing half-field.

     f. Slide tackling is not allowed.  A foul will be called if contact is made in either a dangerous or careless manner.

Exceptions: The GK is allowed to slide in an attempt to clear/save the ball, if in referees' judgment; the slide is an attempt only to make contact with the ball, not the opponent. If GK slide is careless (a foot in air, a hook, rolling tackle) it is a foul and possibly a cardable offense.

   g. Substitutions are made "on the fly". Player may only enter a game after the player they are replacing is heading off the field and should be done so in a safe manner (Ie. When play is at the opposing end or in GK possession.

   h. On a kickoff opposing players must be outside the circle until ball is in play. Goals can be scored directly from the kickoff.

     i. “Out of bounds”: A ball is considered out of bounds if it hits any barrier netting above the wall or the ceiling net or hits any structure that is not part of the field of play. The team that the ball last touched will have an indirect free kick awarded against them near (within 3 yards) where the ball went “out of bounds” (ie. Below the spot). Should a ball hit netting within the “red zone” (between red zone and goal), the ball will be brought back on or behind the red line. All defending players must give 3 yards to the attacking team.

NOTE: In the event that a goalkeeper save deflects the ball into the barrier netting, the attacking team will take an indirect kick on or behind the red line. The defending team must not encroach beyond the goal arc (3 yards from the red line).

     j. Players have 5 seconds to put the ball back into play from these indirect free kicks.

    k. “Locked up”: A ball is considered “locked up” if it is jammed against the wall with players unable to free it. The player in possession of the ball must make every attempt to free the ball. If all attempts fail, an indirect free kick will be awarded to the team in possession similar to “out of bounds”.

NOTE: If in the view of the referee, the player in possession of the ball is purposely “locking it up”, the opposing team will be awarded the indirect free kick.

     l. Infringement against the attacking team within the goal arc will result in a direct penalty kick (PK). PK’s will be taken at the top of the arc with all other players remaining on or behind the red line. Only one step is allowed to shoot.

Exceptions: Will be “out of bounds”, in which case rule 2(i) will apply (see above)

3.  Discipline:

    a. The referee is responsible for the record of the game and the control of the time. Referees have the power to assess penalties applicable to offenses committed during play. Referees' decisions and interpretations of rules are final. Dissent by word or action towards the referees or on site staff will not be tolerated and retroactive suspensions may be enforced depending on the severity of the incident.

   b. Rough, violent play and excessive force are not allowed. In case of unnecessary, rough play, a team may be expelled from the game, or expelled from the league altogether, depending on the severity of the situation. Ungentlemanly, disrespectful behavior directed toward an Asphalt Green staff member will not be tolerated and will be grounds for expulsion.

    c. Yellow Card's will be given if a foul is deemed excessive, intentional, or a repetitive violation of the rules.

   d. If the referee shows a player the yellow card, the player must sit out for 3 minutes. There are no substitutions for the player who receives the yellow card – the team must play down. Once the 3 minutes are up, the player is allowed to return to play. If a goal is scored against the offending player’s team during those three-minutes, the player is allowed back in.

    e. If the referee shows the red card, the player will be removed from the game entirely and will not return. A player receiving a red card must leave the facility in timely manner or his/her team will be issued a forfeit.

NOTE: It should be noted that in coed leagues, team minimums regarding minimum number of males and females on the field do not apply.  to yellow cards but are applicable to red card offences. For example – if two females are on a team and one gets a yellow card, the team can play for 3 minutes with 3 males and 1 female and don’t need the two female minimum.

The following suspensions will be enforced following the award of a card:

· 1 yellow card = 3 minute penalty time out

· 2 yellow cards (in one game) = Red Card = Automatic 1 game suspension

· 3 yellow cards over the course of 6 games = Automatic 1 game suspension

· 5 yellow cards over the course of 9 games = Automatic 2 game suspension

· Straight Red Card = Minimum automatic 1 game suspension however length will be based upon severity of offence.

4.  Dress code: All players are required to wear their Asphalt Green team shirt. Teams are provided with more than enough shirts and should they require more, they need to notify a staff member. Players not in their Asphalt Green team shirt may be deemed out of uniform. Should a referee deem the player's uniform inappropriate, they may be forced to miss the game.

NOTE: Teams will be provided appropriate colored pinnies should team uniforms clash.

Plastic cleats and turf shoes are allowed – no metal spikes. Shin guards are recommended.

5.  Points

· Win = 3 points

· Tie = 1 point

· Loss = 0 point

6.  Playoff Tiebreaker (in order of importance):

· Total Points

· Goal Difference

· Goals Scored (most)

· Goals Allowed (least)

· Head to Head

In the event that teams cannot be separated after tie breakers, a 1 game rematch will take place to determine the team that takes the final spot in the playoffs.

7.  Playoff Rules

In the event of a tie after regular time during playoffs, the following will occur:

· 5 minutes of straight Golden Goal Extra Time (ie. first team to score wins)

· If no team scores during extra time, penalty kicks will ensue and will be taken from the second penalty spot.

· 5 shooters from each team. For co-ed leagues, male and female shooters must alternate

· If scores are tied after 5 shots, shootout is now sudden death

· After first 5 players, order can be at random but no player can shoot twice until all players have shot once. (ie. all members of the team must shoot, including the GK, before the rotation starts again)

8.  Playoff Format

All leagues will seed up to 8 teams make the playoffs and it will be single elimination unless noted otherwise.

NOTE: Anything less than an 8 team league will have a playoff bracket developed consistent with the specified number of teams.
